十九世纪上半叶伦敦社交名媛Lady Blessington像一幅画那么秀美,诗人拜伦说她又有才情又标致,连晨起都好看(“very literary——and very pretty, even of a morning”)。 美国诗人 Nathaniel Parker Willis一八三一年在她的伦敦新居里认识她,马上在美国报纸的专栏里撰文称讚她年届四十却体态丰盈而不失玲珑之姿,肌肤雪白,眉发色浓,彷彿少女之细緻鲜嫩;说她蓝色缎子的衣服裁得很低,褶层缠绕前胸,越发露出两边肩膀之圆浑洁白,不啻剔透之浮雕(“Lady Blessington is now 'she confessed it very frankly' forty, her person is full but preserves all the fineness of an admirable shape and her complexion 'an unusually fair skin with very dark hair and eyebrows' is of even a girlish delicacy and freshness. Her dress of blue satin was cut low and folded across her bosom in a way to show to advantage the round and sculpture-like curve and whiteness of a pair of exquisite shoulders ...”)。 A Journal of Conversations with Lord Byron;她后来所写的法国、意大利游记也深受重视。
